Product Information

Overview

The Titan 2 Medium Gain Preamplifier will amplify signals received by your antenna. This antenna amplifier is a medium gain, low noise preamplifier used to allow weaker signals at the antenna to be amplified to a viewable strength, and is ideal for installations in which broadcast towers are located at widely varying distances. The Titan 2 Medium Gain Preamplifier is a two part unit, an outdoor amplification unit which is mounted on the mast of your antenna system and an indoor unit which powers the outdoor amplification unit. The indoor unit is stationed indoors and connects to the outdoor unit via coaxial cable.  (When installing a splitter with this amplifier it must be a power passing splitter, most common splitters will not pass power.)

Works Very Well to Improve Signal Strength in Attic

(Update Review) Today we moved our Channel Master MetroTenna 40 mile Range Multidirectional Antenna with the Titan 2 Medium Gain PreAmp from outdoor, back to the attic for installation. The pair actually performs better in the attic and is at least 30 ft off the ground. After my son completed the installation, I load the "Find Channels" app on our television and tell him, "Here goes the moment of truth." I scanned. Only 16 channels were detected (WWAY, WECT and PBS in Wilmington, NC). I was stunned because I knew the equipment combo always gets more channels than this. My son opened the attic to re-check everything only to discover he had not tightened the PreAmp coaxial and tells me it had fallen out.
With the PreAmp properly connected, I scanned "Find Channels," again. I was much relieved when it picked up a total of 43 channels. WWAY (3), WECT (6), WILT (24), WPXU, Jacksonville, NC (35), PBS (39), WQDH (49).
We have spent several weeks testing the capabilities of our antenna combo. We've chosen to point our multidirectional antenna north to capture all the channels in the Wilmington, NC area, including channel 35 in Jacksonville, NC which is within the 40 mile reception range and so far, broadcasting crystal clear.
To tap into the Myrtle Beach/Florence, SC television market we have placed an order for a Channel Master ExtremeTenna80 and another PreAmp (CM-7777HD) to point West/Southwest.
Over the past several weeks the 40 mile range antenna has detected channels from Dillon, SC to Myrtle Beach, SC, I am confident an 80 mile range antenna with PreAmp should succeed to consistently capture those signals.
On the map, green transmitters represent transmitter broadcasts we currently receive. Yellow transmitters are channels we have picked up in the past with our attic installation, but not consistently. Red are available transmitters in the region.

Made Significant Difference

I enjoy toying with this equipment, experimenting with how distant of reception can be picked up. At first I added a cheap quality indoor antenna from Amazon= picked up maybe 10 channels, some with interference, disappointing. Got what we paid for. Then I bought a Channel Master Metroantenna 40 mile range (Amazon dp/B000XSAW9S), installed in the attic at about 30' off ground, picked up 23-26 channels with mostly solid reception. Added a Channel Master Titan 2 Medium Gain PreAmp. The channel count increased to 33 with fairly solid reception on initial scan. By scanning for more channels, it eventually rose to a total of 92 channels stored in my guide (most channels detected would play for a short time but dropped out without solid reception. Sometimes on a stormy night up to 150 miles away! i.e., Coastal NC to Raleigh, NC--WRAL 5-1, and Charleston, SC, 130 miles away.
Two stations in Wilmington, NC eluded us with the attic installation; a low power station, Channel 10 and 49, in spite of adding a LTE filter by Channel Master.

In the past week, we moved the 40 mile range antenna outdoors, with some difficulty, installing the antenna on a 30 ft mast. For the first 5 days the reception was not performing as expected. I was very disappointed. Two nights ago, during a late night scan the antenna with amplifier picked up WSOC, 172 miles away, all the way in Charlotte, NC! At that point I knew the antenna and amplifier had probably not been damaged during installation outdoors. I began realizing since I had never seen transmitters from Charlotte, NC in past signal detection... we did not have the multidirectional antenna aligned properly.
With some tweaking of the direction it was pointed, we are now getting around 50 channels, most of them with solid reception. Channel 10 is now coming in clear for the first time, as is Channel 49. Some will come through night (i.e., my favorite is WPDE 15-4 (60 miles away with its transmitter based in Mullins, SC) the "Weather Authority" 24/7.

Rating given: 5 stars.
