Questions & Answers

How can I resolve audio, video, HDMI, Wi-Fi, remote control, channel, or other issues with my TiVo Edge?

Hardware failures with the TiVo Edge are uncommon. Most issues are related to account status, connections, settings, networking, the remote control, or the TV antenna signal. The following troubleshooting steps can help identify the cause.

Account Issues: All TiVo DVRs must communicate with TiVo's servers for initial activation and ongoing service, including units purchased with All-In service. If the TiVo Edge displays an account-related message or directs you to contact TiVo, contact TiVo Support for assistance.

If you purchased a TiVo Edge from Channel Master with All-In service, you may need to contact TiVo during the initial setup to have the TiVo hardware associated with an account containing your information. If this is not completed, the device may remain associated with a generic Channel Master account and could eventually lose access to its TiVo service.

Audio, Video & HDMI Issues: Audio or video problems are often caused by a loose, damaged, or defective HDMI cable; HDMI compatibility issues when the signal is routed through a soundbar or A/V receiver; television settings such as HDMI-CEC; or the television being set to the wrong HDMI input.

Verify that the HDMI cable is securely connected at both ends and that the television is using the correct input. If possible, connect the TiVo Edge directly to the television with a known-good HDMI cable to eliminate intermediate equipment such as a soundbar or A/V receiver as a possible cause. Also review the television's HDMI and HDMI-CEC settings.

Wi-Fi & Internet Issues: Many Wi-Fi and internet connectivity problems originate with the home's network rather than the TiVo Edge itself. Check the Wi-Fi network name and password, router settings, internet connection, and wireless signal strength at the TiVo Edge.

If the problem continues, TiVo provides additional network troubleshooting information.

Remote Control Issues: If you need help programming the TiVo remote to operate a television or other compatible device, refer to TiVo's remote-control programming information. If the TiVo Edge does not respond to the remote, first check or replace the batteries. Pairing or interference can also cause remote-control problems.

TiVo Remote Control Troubleshooting

Missing Channel or Reception Issues: The TiVo Edge requires a sufficiently strong, good-quality TV antenna signal to reliably detect and receive over-the-air channels. If the antenna signal is weak or marginal, the TiVo may fail to detect one or more expected channels or reception may be unreliable.

Different television tuners can have different reception characteristics. Therefore, a channel working on a television connected to the same antenna system does not necessarily mean the TiVo Edge will receive that channel reliably. If channels are missing or unstable on the TiVo Edge, troubleshoot and improve the antenna signal and coaxial distribution system even if another television currently receives those channels.

For problems that are not resolved using the troubleshooting steps above, contact TiVo Support for additional assistance.
