Questions & Answers

How do I set up the SMARTenna+ (CM-3001HD)?

The Channel Master SMARTenna+ (CM-3001HD) automatically searches for and optimizes available TV signals when it is powered on. For the best results, allow the antenna to complete this process before performing a channel scan on your television.

The SMARTenna+ package includes the antenna, 6-foot and 16-foot mini coaxial cables, power supply/power inserter, and Quick Start Guide.

To set up the SMARTenna+:

  1. Connect the SMARTenna+ according to the Quick Start Guide using the included coaxial cable and power supply/power inserter.
  2. Apply power to the antenna. The SMARTenna+ will automatically begin its signal search and optimization process.
  3. Watch the white indicator light on the base of the antenna. The light will blink while the antenna is searching and optimizing. This process can take several minutes.
  4. Wait until the white light stops blinking and remains steadily illuminated before performing a channel scan on your television.
  5. On your TV, select Antenna, Air, or Over-the-Air as the signal source and perform a channel scan.

Antenna placement is important. In general, placing the SMARTenna+ higher will provide better results than placing it lower. A window location may also provide better access to available broadcast signals. Different locations within the same room or home can produce different reception results.

If you move the SMARTenna+ to another location, perform the signal search and optimization process again so the antenna can optimize itself for the new location.

To perform another signal search and optimization:

Press and hold the black button next to the indicator light until the white light begins blinking, then release the button. You can also briefly disconnect and reconnect power to initiate another search.

The white light will blink during the optimization process and remain steadily illuminated when the process is complete. Afterward, perform another channel scan on your television.

If you are having difficulty receiving a particular channel:
The SMARTenna+ has seven virtual reception positions that can be manually selected. Press and release the black button to change the virtual position. For example, press the button twice for virtual position 2, three times for virtual position 3, and continue in this manner to test the available positions. Reception can vary between positions, so test the affected channel after changing the setting.

Note: The SMARTenna+ receives digital over-the-air television signals. If it is being used with an older analog television that does not have a built-in digital TV tuner, a separate digital converter box is required.

Why does the Search light on my SMARTenna+ (CM-3001HD) continue blinking for more than 5 minutes?

n the Channel Master SMARTenna+ (CM-3001HD) is performing its automatic signal search and optimization process, it is normal for the white Search light on the base of the antenna to blink for approximately 2 to 5 minutes. When the process is complete, the light should stop blinking and remain steadily illuminated.

If the Search light continues blinking for more than 5 minutes and never stops, check the black button on the base of the antenna. The button may be stuck in the pressed position, which can prevent the search process from completing normally.

Press and release the black button several times. The button should have a noticeable tactile feel and you should hear or feel a light click each time it is pressed. Make sure the button releases completely and does not remain stuck.

After checking the button, briefly disconnect power from the SMARTenna+ and then reconnect it. This will start a new signal search and optimization process. Allow several minutes for the process to complete. When finished, the white light should stop blinking and remain steadily illuminated.
