The Channel Master Simple Remote (CM-7000XRC) is compatible with Apple TV HD (A1625), Apple TV 4K 1st generation (A1842), and Apple TV 4K 2nd generation (A2169). With these models, the Simple Remote should normally work right out of the package without additional setup.
If the Simple Remote is not controlling your Apple TV, follow these troubleshooting steps in order:
- Make sure the front of the Apple TV is visible.
The Simple Remote requires a clear line of sight to the front of the Apple TV. If the Apple TV is installed behind the television, inside a cabinet, or behind a closed cabinet door, relocate it so the front of the Apple TV is visible and the remote can be aimed directly toward it. - Check the batteries and remote power indicator.
Install a fresh set of batteries and confirm that the indicator light at the top of the Simple Remote illuminates each time you press a button. If the indicator does not illuminate, verify that the batteries are fresh and installed correctly. - Make sure the Apple TV software is up to date.
On the Apple TV, go to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software and install any available tvOS updates. - Restart the Apple TV.
If the indicator on the Simple Remote illuminates but the Apple TV does not respond, go to Settings > System > Restart. Allow the Apple TV to restart completely, then test the Menu, Up, Down, Left, and Right buttons again. - Factory reset the Simple Remote.
Hold the Simple Remote approximately 12 inches from the front of the Apple TV. Press and hold the Menu and Stop buttons simultaneously for approximately 3 seconds. This resets the Simple Remote to its factory defaults. After completing the reset, test the Menu and directional buttons again. - Use the Apple TV Learn Remote feature.
If the Apple TV still does not respond, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Learn Remote > Start on the Apple TV. Follow the on-screen instructions to teach the Apple TV the commands from the Simple Remote. When finished, test the Menu and directional buttons again. - Reset the Apple TV as a final troubleshooting step.
If the previous steps do not resolve the issue, go to Settings > System > Reset > Reset and Update. This restores the Apple TV to factory settings, removes its existing settings and information, and installs the latest available tvOS software. Because this process erases the Apple TV's current configuration, it should only be performed after completing the other troubleshooting steps above.
If the Simple Remote still does not control the Apple TV after completing all of these steps, confirm that the Apple TV is one of the compatible models listed above and repeat the troubleshooting process with a fresh set of batteries and a clear, unobstructed line of sight between the remote and the front of the Apple TV.
