As good, if not better, than cable. And for free April 18, 2016
Reviewer: Erick from Montreal
i have been using the DVR+ for 3 months now and i am very satisfied with the product.  TV Guide works well.  Recording is surprisingly good. i did not think that a usb drive would be able to handle it. I have WD 2Gigs.  watch one show while recording two, all in HD.  No pixelation, images are very good.

Also purchased a Tablo this weekend and will be returning the unit.  The tv guide, which is not free, had not all the channels i am receiving.  Very disappointed about Tablo.

DVR+ is the closest to a cable box navigation i have seen. Anybody that likes to channel surf will appreciate

Second DVR with same issue, low quality receiver. April 18, 2016
Reviewer: Wayne Powers from klamath Falls, Oregon
I really like the DVR and how it works as a DVR.  However I contacted tech support and told them that my new TV gets BETTER reception than my DVR.  I was told that the newer units have better receivers and that may help.  So I bought a second DVR and it is no better than my first unit.  You folks need to do something to improve your receiver qualities.  Love the unit as a recorder but not as a receiver.  I get better reception using my TV receiver.  Need both functions working together to make this a awesome device.

Best thing since Tivo! April 18, 2016

I love my DVR+. This device and my AppleTV are the reason I canceled DirecTV after being a customer for 22 years. I am using it with an external antennae and I get all my local channels. The remote is easy to use and scheduling season passes is easy. The free channel guide shows two weeks of shows - plenty for scheduling recordings. The picture quality of the over-the-air channels is amazing. There are also internet channels that may not be in HD but there are quite a few decent channels that I was not expecting. I use an external Seagate 1TB hard drive and have had zero issues. If you're looking to cut the cable, this is the way to go. It may seem expensive upfront but it will pay for itself after three months of no DirecTV bill...

Almost excellent April 15, 2016
Reviewer: MIke Jaehn from Eagle, WI
 - Works as advertised:  Flawlessly records 2 programs and allows viewing of previously recorded program simultaneously.
 - Unit runs cool.
 - With a 1TB, portable, HD attached there's a crazy amount of program storing ability.
   - Very good TV guide info available when connected to the internet.
 - Came with the 'larger' remote that uses AAA batteries
 - All stored programs with the same name are placed in their own folder automatically.
 - Skip forward/back durations are adjustable.
 - Remote is far too directional and response is slow.
 - Stored programs are filed by date rather than alphabetically.
-TV guide only fills half of the screen.
 - Accessing closed caption is a 3 step operation!
 - Modifying program names can be a pain because there is no back-arrow 'button'.
CONCLUSION:  I'd recommend this unit without hesitation!  That said, you MUST buy an additional hard drive.

No Regrets April 15, 2016
Reviewer: Joe from OUTSIDE Phoenix, AZ
The DVR is functioning well after two weeks.
Good things I didn't expect:
1. My OLD external USB disk is working fine with it.
2. DOES seem to be able to record only NEW shows in series... Maybe a new feature.
3. Skip Forward button (my old COX DVR had fast forward and skip BACK but not a skip forward.) .

What I don't like (but not a big deal):
1. When stopping a recorded show, it takes me back to the list.  To delete it I then have to re-select it and say delete.  Cox DVR would immediately ask me if I wanted to delete the show I just stopped.
2. If I skip forward past the end of the recording, but missed the tail end (e.g., scenes of next week), then I have to start the recording all over again and fast forward through the entire show to get back to the end.  Cox DVR would let me skip back even if I had passed the end of the show.
3. I actually miss the clock on the front of the COX DVR... but this thing is so tiny there isn't any room for a clock :)
